Mario Williams Had No Choice But Leave Texans

Sep 26, 2014 10:53 PM

Mario Williams signed with the Buffalo Bills in the offseason, but his departure from the Houston Texans wasn't his choice.

"Everybody looks at as you just up and leave," Williams said. "But you don't know the fact of basically being told 'We're not giving you anything as far as an offer or anything like that.' So your hands are tied in that aspect. Everybody else looks at it like you just went in free agency and left. Obviously, there was plenty of time for things done that wasn't done.

"That's fine with me. I just wish everybody else who runs their mouth and says this or that knew the whole story about it before making a decision about me just abandoning fans and the team and everything else like that because that's not my role. I'm not that type of guy.

"I'm here, and I'm ecstatic about it. We made the best of it. But there was never an offer from the general manager [Rick Smith]. It was a one-way door that was opened."

“Hopefully this leads to the right track and we’ll get it done sooner than later… I’m happy so far, so I can just relax and play some football."

Cruz is scheduled to be a restricted free agent at the end of the current season.

Turner Unlikely To Be Fired By Chargers During Season

Sep 26, 2014 10:54 PM

The San Diego Chargers have lost three straight games to fall to 3-4, but Norv Turner's job is not yet in jeopardy.

"You're coaching on a week-to-week basis," Turner said Monday when asked if he's coaching for his job. "I'm coaching to do the best job I can to get our team ready to play Kansas City. All those other conversations, they're going to take place. You know they're going to take place."

Turner said he hasn't spoken about his job status with either general manager A.J. Smith or team president Dean Spanos.

The Chargers are unlikely to fire Turner during the season.

Turner is the de facto offensive coordinator since he calls the teams plays and Spanos has a history of not making knee-jerk reactions.

Oct 22, 2014 5:25 PM

Bill Belichick hasn't noticed an increase in trade talk this season as the deadline has been pushed back.

“I haven’t, no. And this week has really been – it’s a normal week for us but a short week for us. We’ve moved our preparations up so we’ve really at it trying to get ready for this week. We haven’t talked about it."

NFL teams rarely make significant in-season trades.

Oher is signed to his original five-year rookie deal worth $12.799 million, which included $7.82 million in guaranteed money.

"I love it here," Oher told The Baltimore Sun. "It's a great organization, great city. I would love to finish out here. That's up to the organization. Without a doubt my ears are open."

Victor Cruz Seeks New Contract From Giants

Oct 14, 2014 5:04 AM

Victor Cruz would like a new contract from the New York Giants, but won't let the situation become a distraction.

“As a human being, you obviously want to, you hope to get it done before the season, obviously,’’ said Cruz. “We don’t want to drag it along and become something that blocks the team in the off-season and something that is in the media every day. We want to just knock it out halfway through the season or during the season at the very least and get it behind us.’’

Cruz is making just $540,000 this season.
